Varin Acevedo

Varin Acevedo, an award winning Exhibit Designer based in San Diego, California, offers extensive design and exhibit experience in the for-profit and non-profit sectors.

Trained in evaluation and text writing with Chandler Screvin, one of the founders of modern Evaluation, Varin’s museum projects include the innovative, Reinberger Hall of Earth and Planetary Exploration at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History where she worked with curators and educators to design and build interactive spaces rich in interpretive material on geology and astronomy within an immersive environment. The Hall features a simulated earthquake platform, MTV-style videos explaining the geologic time periods, interactive games, a cave, solar system blastoff game and other innovative learning spaces. As part of the project, she was honored to be asked to design the Wade Gallery of Gems and Jewels, a showplace for one of the finest collections in America.

Varin has also designed exhibits for The Great Lakes Nautical Museum and The Western Reserve Historical Society in Ohio. Exhibits here ranged from those about the history of ice cream to famous crimes, the environment, and sailing.

Varin is known for her ability to work with all types of clients and a diversity of content – from “serious” art to natural history and exhibits for little ones. Her range of experience includes full-scale gallery design and implementation to planning and managing changing exhibits. She has worked for NASA, creating the “Aero Adventure Gallery” and for the Fresno Metropolitan Museum, Utica Children’s Museum, the Children’s Museum of Cleveland, and The Midway Museum in San Diego and others.

Varin’s corporate design work at Skyline Display, TS3 and Ohio Displays gave her extensive experience designing for major corporations, such as Kyocera, Kichler Lighting, Pearl Vision, Xavix, Tritek, Kodak, Bonne Bell, Rubbermaid, Brother, Polaroid, National City Bank, and Hello Kitty.

Her skills include the ability to make adult exhibits appealing to children; create public programming that is exciting for all ages; develop educational and appealing art projects for children; plan and implement special events and family programming. Her various print design projects include books, magazines, newsletters, maps, guides and more.

Varin received her degree and design education from the New York School of Interior Design.

Her pastimes include her own creative endeavors – painting, mosaics, personal design and portraiture. She is a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Foster Children in San Diego County.
